Weekly Poem - Be Fair

Be Fair!

Be fair to your friend, the friendly fraction,
Reduce both terms fairly when you try.
Be fair to numerators and denominators,
‘Cause you’d never want to make a fraction cry!

Be fair to both terms when you reduce them,
Reduce them equally to simplify.
Be fair to numerators and denominators,
‘Cause you’d never want to make a fraction cry!

You're a Weather Instrument Maker

You have just been hired as the newest weather instrument maker. Your job is to create one of the following weather instruments:

-anemometer
-barometer
-wind vane
-hygrometer

After you have finished making your weather instrument, your supervisor wants to know the following information:

-What does the instrument look like?
-What does the instrument measure? What unit of measurement does it use?
-Explain and describe how the instrument itself works/functions.
-Where is the best place to use the instrument?
-How does a person interpret the results of the reading?
-How was it discovered? Who discovered it? What is its history?
-How does the information gained from this instrument improve our daily lives?

How you will be evaluated:
-Does your weather instrument work and measure what it is supposed to?
-Was all of your work (instrument and write-up) turned in on time?
-Does your write-up answer all of the questions?
-Is the information in your write-up accurate?
-Is your work neat?

Weekly Poem - Joyous Hanukkah!

Joyous Hanukkah!
Eva Grant

At last! At last! Hanukkah is here!
The whole house is bursting with holiday cheer.

Pancakes are sizzling as hard as they can,
Browning delectably crisp in the pan.

The dreidels can scarcely wait to be spun;
Presents are hidden for Hanukkah fun;

And there, on the table, polished and bright,
The shining menorah gleams through the night,

Like the oil lamp in ancient history,
That burned on and on miraculously!

And each flaming candle proclaims the great story
Of the Maccabean heroes, their deeds and their glory.
