Today, we started our investigation of decimals. In a 4th grade paragraph, write what you already know about decimals, what you learned about decimals today, questions that you have about decimals. Feel free to respond to your classmates paragraphs, but be sure that you are using 4th grade classroom language.
I knew that decimals have to do with fractions. I also knew that decimals are smaller than a whole. Today, I learned how to make a decimal by looking at a 10 by 1o square and coloring in parts. This is what I learned and know about Decimals.

Before today, I didn't really understand decimals. Now I Know that 1/100=0.01 and 10/100=0.10.I also learned what the resemblence between a fraction and a decimal. I don't really have any questions on the lesson we learned today.I can't wait to learn more!

Decimals are another way to use fractions. For example 0.1/one hundredths. There are not ones in fractions only tenths hundredths ect.
ReplyDeleteAlso it goes in a order of smaller to greater tenths hundredths so on.
This is made by Diego Attra
DeleteCal Persons-I know that decimals are part of a whole like fractions. Also, I know that decimals can go on forever. In class today, we learned about tenths and hundredths. This is all I know about decimals.
ReplyDeleteI know that do are fractions but they are sideways. They small parts of a whole. What I learn today was the parts of of a whole are what make up a fraction.

3/5 does not equal .35 or 3.5
DeleteBefore today I already knew a little about decimals. I knew about the places. Today I learned about how decimals connect back to fractions. Such as 0.43=43/100. I also learned different ways that you can represent decimals. I have one question, are we going to make a decimal by looking at a different picture? (other than the 10 by 10 square)
ReplyDeleteAntony: I knew a little bit about decimals before tody. I knew for exaple that 65/100=0.65. The zero is for a hundred and 65 is for 65. There are also many ways to represent decimals. You can show it as a picture. You can use a 10 by 10 chart. That is what I knew before we learned about decimals today.
ReplyDeleteI know that decimals are related to fractions. I also know that decimals can go on ,and on ,and on. I know that I can use fractions to equal decimals, for example 3/100 = 0.03 = three hundredths. That's what I learned so far about decimals and I can't wait to learn more about them.

i knew nothing about decimals until today. some examples you can use is a 10 by 10 grid. that's what we did today. i know that decimals are related to fractions. another example is
ReplyDelete0.28 that in word form is twenty -eight hundredths

I know that decimals can relate to fractions and money. If I have 50 cents in decimals that is 0.50.In fractions 0.50 is 50/100.Decimals go on forever just like numbers.I really like this topic and can't wait to learn more.I would like to know if there are improper decimals like there are improper fractions?I would also like to know if decimals and fractions relate to percentages?
ReplyDelete-Hannah Hardy:)
I knew about fractions before but now I really understand them. Decimals relate back to fractions. It can also be used with money. For example,$0.26=0.26=twenty-six hudredths. In a fraction it would be 26/100, if one hundred is your whole. I would like to know how to add/subtract decimals? How do precentages relate back to fraction?
ReplyDelete-michelle durst
I think percentages are like fractions. For example, if I got 26 questions right out of 100 questions, that would be 26%. Great Question, I wonder the same thing!

I know a little bit about decimals before today. I know that 0.1 is 1/100 but now I fully understand.Today I learned that decimals can look different but equal the same number. I also learned that they relate to fractions. For example, 0.34 is the same thing as 34 out of 100, or 34/100. I 'd like to learn how to multiply decimals, if that exists! :)

I new some about decimals before we learned about them. We learned about tenths and hundredths. Today I learned 1/100 could be equilal to 0.01. Fractions also relate to fractions. Bye!

I really didn't know a lot about decimals before today. My dad also likes to teach me decimals. Now I know that 73=73.00 and 1=1.00. I really think decimals are interesting. My question is "how does 73=o.73 be true".
ReplyDeletegwen read
I only new that decimals are realated to fractions. I learned that 1/100 = 0.01 and 10/100 = 0.10. I also learned that decimals are smaller than a whole. I also learned that fractions can goon forever. That is what I learned so far.

I already knew a lot of things about decimals. For example: 1=0.01. But today I learned that if the number 27 would be 0.27 because your just putting the number that you have right next your tenths place. I still am eager to learn more about fractions and what you can do with them!
ReplyDeleteJames Toner
I learned that before you simplify a fraction the denominator has to be the same as the simplified number to make it as a decimal but 12/100=3/25 a 3/25 which I calculated is 12/100!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was by Nikhel A. Krishna.....
DeleteAnd I am changing it :(
I know that decimals relate back to fractions. I also know that 0.08 would be eight one hundreths. I was not in class when you guys had a mini lesson on decimals because I was testing for Challenge. I want to know how to add and subtract decimals. I also want to know what you guys did while I was gone.

I want to learn a lot more about decimals.

I learned that you have to make sure the denminator in the simplified fraction is the same denominator (10,100,or any power of 10) in the regular denominator
ReplyDeleteeg:2/100=0.02
1/50 doesn't equal .50
