Where in the World is Mrs Lockwood Going?

Boys and girls,
Next week is spring break. I know that you are excited for a week long break. I know am! I already have my bags packed. Every couple of days, I will update the blog with pictures and clues. Try to figure out where Billy and I are. I look forward to seeing your guesses. Happy almost Spring Break!

To, Two, Too Writing

Write a story with the words to, too, and two in your Reading/ELA notebook. You must use each form of the word at least five times.  After you have a completed your story, rewrite the story by placing lines where you used to, two or too. You may write or type your final draft. Turn in your final draft. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Bring the copy of your poem to class on your assigned day. Give to it to Mrs. Lockwood before you present your poem. 

Weekly Poem - The Labors of Hercules

***Work with a partner to recite this poem next Monday, March 18, 2013.***

You will be graded on your performance.

The Labors of Hercules

The great warrior Hercules
Was made out of pretty stern stuff.
He carried out twelve famous tasks,
All of them really tough.

He fought a lion with claws so sharp
That it could rip armor to shreds.
And then he killed a hydra, that's
A monster with nine heads.

After that he was told to go 
And catch a golden deer.
The deer was very hard to catch
It took Hercules a full year.

His next task was hunting again
This time a wild savage boar.
After that he cleaned a stable
Which was full of manure.
Hercules cleaned those huge stables 
In just one single day,
And then he had to go and chase
Some nasty birds away.

Next he caught a dangerous Bull
'Twas rampaging through Crete.
After that he stole some horses
That had a taste for meat.

He went to the Amazons next
And wound up having a battle.
And after that he had to go
And steal a monster's cattle.

Next he had to search the whole world
To find some special magic fruit.
And finally he caught a dog -
A huge, three headed brute.

Hercules earned a great reward
For being so strong and so clever;
His father Zeus promised him
That he would live forever.

What do you know about DECIMALS?

Today, we started our investigation of decimals. In a 4th grade paragraph, write what you already know about decimals, what you learned about decimals today, questions that you have about decimals. Feel free to  respond to your classmates paragraphs, but be sure that you are using 4th grade classroom language. 

Weekly Poem - I Love the Look of Words

I Love the Look of Words

Popcorn leaps, popping from the floor
of a hot black skillet
and into my mouth.
Black words leap,
snapping from the white
page. Rushing into my eyes. Sliding
into my brain which gobbles them
the way my tongue and teeth
chomp the buttered popcorn.

When I have stopped reading,
ideas from the words stay stuck
in my mind, like the sweet
smell of butter perfuming my
fingers long after the popcorn
is finished.
I love the book and the look of words
the weight of ideas that popped into my mind
I love the tracks
of new thinking in my mind.
